I'll have to give that a listen.
How could you not like the Pixies? They basically invented grunge.

As a 30something who was into grunge as a teenager, I have to say something that may be blasphemy:
Nirvana's In Utero was a better Pixies album than the Pixies ever made.
There. I said it. Also, Sonic Youth wasn't nearly as good as every brown-sweater-wearing-record-store-dude-with-greasy-hair-and-scraggly-goatee said they were.

as a 16 year old who has spent most of his life listening to these 3 bands, i must say. In utero was fantastic, and like the other 2, was very pixie in fluenced. but better than Doolittle or surfer rosa? Im not sure.. Dave grohl was a better drummer, but kim deal was a better bassist. Frank black was a more unique singer, but Kurt cobain was a better song writer
Sonic youth, on the other hand, is fantastic! hands down. Perhaps a little over glorified, but still a great band. that being said, i dont think they were as good as the pixies
I think its worth noting though that as much pixie influence that nirvana had, they had almost as much sonic youth influence as well
